Knit from the top down this summer top is a classic piece with that little added extra detail on the neckline. A very simple knit which just requires the time investment of 2x2 rib on small needles, but trust me, it's worth every stitch!
The release date for this pattern is 6th April 2023, so I am looking for a quicker than usual test knit turnaround. Therefore I ask that you only apply if you are certain you can finish the test by the deadline. For reference I knit size C in about 2 weeks of pretty intense knitting solely on this project. I will be paying closer attention to your yarn choice information as I would prefer if you already had the yarn in your stash or you are able to get it fairly quickly either online or from your local yarn shop. You do not need to knit your test in the suggested yarn.
If you are keen to knit one of the larger sizes I of course understand that this will take longer than the smallest sizes, in this case please add to the notes section a rough estimate of how long you think it would take you to finish the garment. For sizes G-J I would be happy to just get the 'yoke' feedback (probably about half of the total stitch count) as that is key to getting the fit right.
I'm really looking for a great bunch of committed test knitters on this one to make sure I can get the polished pattern out in time for the summer knitting season, so if you have read this far then you are on the right track!
Deadline: 30th March 2023
Sizes: A (B, C, D, E) (F, G, H, I) J
28” (32”, 36”, 40”, 44”) (48”, 52”, 56”, 60”) 64 / 73 cm (81 cm, 90 cm, 102 cm, 110 cm) (122 cm, 131 cm, 142 cm, 151 cm) 163 cm
Choosing your size and fit: The stated measurements are for the actual garment, choose a size with your desired ease, 0 to 2” negative ease is recommended.
Yarn: Sample knitted in Knitting for olive pure silk (250m/50g)
Note: To achieve the drapey look of the sample knit, choose a yarn made with silk or a plant based fibre for example silk, linen or cotton. Wool blends may work but are likely to give a different look to the final garment.
Yardage:
90 (100, 110, 125, 140) (150, 160, 175, 190) 200 grams
450 (500, 550, 625, 700) (750, 800, 875, 950) 1000 metres
Note: These yardages are for the recommended body length, if you make the top longer you will need additional yardage. If you make the higher V neck option you may also need slightly more yarn.
Needles: 3 mm circular needles and/or DPNs
Needle size is recommended, choose a size needed to achieve gauge.
Gauge: 28 stitches & 32 rows per 4” / 10 cm in 2x2 rib after blocking.
When using silk or plant based fibres it is REALLY important to block your swatch and stretch the ribbing out to your desired level of stretch before measuring the gauge. These fibres (especially cotton) also have the tendency to grow a lot over time with wear, so if you find you are between sizes or your gauge is slightly off consider this and choose a smaller size. In addition, if you find that your flat and in the round gauge differ a lot, check both a flat and in the round gauge swatch.
Notions: 3 spare cables or waste yarn to hold the back and shoulders, optional stitch markers to help with placement of increases.
Difficulty:
Intermediate. This pattern requires only basic knit, purl and simple increase stitches. However other construction techniques are required including casting on additional stitches and picking up stitches in a rib pattern. The top is knitted for flat and in the round. Due to the small gauge of the pattern this may be tricky if you have never constructed a top down garment like this.
Deadline: 30th March 2023 (this is a hard deadline, I plan to release the top on the 6th April)
OPEN FOR SIZE G, H, I and J ONLY!
