Lilac Cardigan

The release date for this pattern is 28th July 2023. Therefore I ask that you only apply if you are certain you can finish the test by the deadline. For reference I knit size B in about 3 weeks of knitting solely on this project. You do not need to knit your test in the suggested yarn.

Deadline: 14th July 2023

Sizes: A (B, C, D, E) (F, G, H, I)

To fit bust sizes: 30” (34”, 38”, 42”, 46”) (50”, 54”, 58”, 62”) / 76 cm (86 cm, 96 cm, 106 cm, 116 cm) (127 cm, 137 cm, 147 cm, 157 cm)

Choosing your size and fit: The stated measurements are for your body, the cardigan is designed with between 2-6” / 7-15 cm of positive ease depending on the size.

Yarn: Sample knitted in one strand of Sandnes Sunday and one strand of Filcolana Tilia.

Any yarn that meets the gauge may be used.

Yardage:

Needles: 3.25 mm, 3.5 mm & 4 mm circular needles and/or DPNs. Needle sizes are recommended, choose a size needed to achieve gauge, the smaller needles should be 0.5 - 1 mm smaller than the larger needle.

Gauge: 22 stitches & 28 rows per 4” / 10 cm in stockinette on larger needles after blocking.

Note: As the cardigan is knitted both flat and in the round, you may want to check both your flat and in the round gauge if you find that your tension changes a lot.

Notions: 5 buttons not wider than 11mm, 2 spare cables or waste yarn to hold the back and front stitches, at least 2 normal and 4 clip on stitch markers.

Difficulty:

Intermediate / advanced. For once this pattern is harder than it looks! The cardigan itself is not too challenging, although it does use german short rows and there are a lot of stitches to pick up. However the finishing details are not easy, the neckline facing especially requires time and commitment, but it is SO WORTH IT! The final pattern may have more resources in terms of video tutorials, but for the test knit I would prefer it if you have some experience with double knitted button bands and folded sewn hems, or that you are willing to practise these on swatches and frog and repeat until you get it right.

Deadline: 14th July 2023
